Open Source Program Office (OSPO) Management
Open Technology Incubator helps organizations establish and manage Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs). We provide guidance on open source licensing, compliance, intellectual property considerations, project governance, and community engagement to support both inbound and outbound open source initiatives.

Advisor Network

Advisor Responsibilities

As an advisor, you can expect to:

  • Respond to startup mentoring requests within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Share relevant experience and practical guidance with founders.
  • Make introductions through your professional network when appropriate.
  • Offer perspective and mentorship based on your experience.

What Advisors Can Expect

  • Choose which mentoring opportunities you wish to participate in.
  • Potential opportunities for paid consulting engagements that may develop independently between advisors and startups.
  • Potential invitations to serve on advisory boards or boards of directors if initiated by the startup.

Participation

Participation in the Advisor Network is voluntary.

Open Technology Incubator does not compensate advisors for participating in the network. However, advisors and startups may independently pursue consulting, advisory board, or equity discussions if both parties are interested. Advisors are asked not to solicit compensation or equity as a condition of participating in the program.

  • Open Source Technology Consultancy Incubation
    Join the OpenTeams network of enterprise open source service providers and gain access to consulting opportunities and a broader open source services ecosystem.
  • Open Source Project Incubation
    Receive guidance on open sourcing an existing project, growing a community, managing governance, adopting open source best practices, and coordinating project releases.
  • New Product or Service Incubation

  • Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program
    Participate in OTI’s 18-month Entrepreneur in Residence program, which provides full-time employment, salary and benefits while you build your own company. OTI also assists with establishing your business entity and provides ongoing guidance throughout the program.
  • Buyout Program
    Entrepreneurs in the EIR Program may buy out up to 50% of their consulting time, allowing them to dedicate more time to building their company. Service Credits help fund this transition while supporting continued client work.

Open Technology Incubator provides funding opportunities designed to help entrepreneurs and early-stage open source companies build sustainable businesses. Through strategic investment and the Entrepreneur in Residence Program, OTI helps founders dedicate more time and resources to growing their companies.

    An early-stage venture capital firm focused on finding, funding, and empowering startups that rely significantly on open source technology.
  • Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program
    The EIR Program provides entrepreneurs with a full-time salary and benefits while they build their own company. Participants work alongside experienced founders and may participate in the Buyout Program to dedicate additional time to their startup.
  • Service Credits
    Service Credits allow entrepreneurs participating in the Buyout Program to reduce consulting commitments by using externally funded credits to offset a portion of their OTI salary, creating more time to focus on growing their company.
